Parish Plan

The Parish Council has started the process of adopting a Parish Plan.  The idea of the Plan is to give local people the power to decide and plan what is best for the local community.  Any ideas can be included in the Plan and if supported an action plan will be produced which will identify how ideas will be put in to practice in the short, medium or long term.  Large ambitious projects will obviously take more time and effort to plan and develop.  It is hoped the Plan will be completed by February 2009.

Whilst the Parish Council will support the preparation of the Plan, it is important that it is a Plan produced for the local community by the local community.  The Plan also covers Churchside, Corbriggs and Winsick which are within the Parish.  A grant of £2,900 has been secured to cover the majority of the costs of the Plan.  The Parish Council will cover any additional costs.

To co-ordinate activities associated with the Plan, a Steering Group has been established.  The Group comprises representatives of local community organisations, local residents, local businesses and the Parish Council who are in a minority.  The Group is chaired by Rob Whitehead with Alan Woolven as the Vice-Chair.

The Steering Group has identified 6 specific subject areas on which to concentrate its activities.  These are Children and Young People, Older Adults, Sport and Leisure, Community Engagement/Communication, Environment and Community Safety and Churchside/Winsick/Corbriggs.

To be successful, the Plan needs to gather as much information from as many local people as possible.  It is important that as many people as possible from all age groups and all areas of the Parish are engaged in the Plan process and help determine the Plan outcomes.   Potential outcomes from the Parish Plan process are not limited to those ideas and actions that can be put in place by the Parish Council.

In the coming months therefore, the Steering Group will be organising a series of consultation exercises aimed at the whole community.  A “Love it/hate it” form is currently being used to gather background information for the Plan if you would like to submit a form please contact the Parish Clerk.   The outcomes of the Love it/hate consultation exercise will provide the Steering Group with “emerging themes” which will form the basis of a more detailed consultation exercise to be carried out in the Autumn. Details of consultation exercises and events will be publicised locally and on this website.
