The Village Fight

As working people we acknowledge that there is much that we are unable to do to fight the way that we’d prefer, however, that said we are proud of our achievements so far and the campaign group will always welcome new members. Particularly those who live outside Grassmoor but in one of the “soon-to-be-affected communities”

Derbyshire County Council will claim that they have effectively engaged local people. By putting notices up on lamp posts and leaving copies of the plans in Parish Council offices. Unless you frequent your Community Centre or move in the right circles, you will never know about these plans until one day you wake up and there is an odd pungent smell, and a massive number of council lorries, cars, diggers thundering past your home !

Anyway, back to the fight !! - Our first job was to understand the plans and analyse them objectively and fairly. Once done we realised there were loads of flaws, discrepancies and missing details. It was evident that DCC had spent a lot of time forcing these plans to fit the location !

From then, we knew the fight was ON!

There are numerous objectors to these plans, from lowly law-abiding tax-payers like us who happen to live in the affected communities to larger objectors such as Network Rail, English Nature, and North East Derbyshire County Council.

So far we have made lots of leaflets to raise awareness and made numerous garden signs along North Wingfield Road

We have written documents of valid objections to DCC. Lots of individual letters have been dispatched too.

We have spoken to the consultees to discuss the plans with them.

We have run the successful protest march and gained support from our labour MP.

We have written to the Derbyshire Times and had letters published and excellent articles written. (Our thanks to Derbyshire Times !)

NIMBY – (Not In My Back Yard)

Please note – On one hand we are ‘NIMBY’ as we have suffered from a horrific industrial past in our area due to coal mining and believe that it is unfair and unjustifiable to punish a community again. One the other hand – Our campaign centres around the fact that we passionately believe that an operation of this size and an untested facility like this should be no where near any homes…
