Protest March
On Saturday 16th September 2006, over 300 residents of Grassmoor and other local communities took to the streets. The weather was perfect for the march and that was a real relief for the organisers !
The atmosphere was really great. Lots of people had made an effort and were kitted out in fancy dress. People brought drums, whistles and passing motorists beeped their horns in support. It was a special occasion to see so many people come out in force. The Police who came to look after the protesters were excellent and added to the event, by their friendliness and professionalism. There was a great cheer reminiscent of a football stadium from the protesters when the officers did the ‘woo woo’ of the siren on their vans ! The folks who came were from all walks of life, people brought babies in pushchairs, children marched and sang, older residents and disabled people came on their scooters !! All with the same common aims in mind – This was a great example of intergenerational mixing ! One of the highlights of the march was the attendance of Natascha Engel MP. Natascha is a supporter of the campaign to have the plant relocated to a place where it will be less disruptive. There is a montage in the Grassmoor Community Centre of the pictures taken at the event for all to see.

Outraged residents walked down the main road through the village to the proposed entrance of the site.
